IND vs ENG, Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 Highlights |
On Saturday,
in their ICC Women's T20 World Cup group match, India lost to England by 11
runs despite Smriti Mandhana's half-century (52 off 41 balls) and Richa Ghosh's
entertaining 47 off 34 balls. The defeat was due to the cheap dismissals of
opener Shafali Verma (8), Jemimah Rodrigues (13), and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur
(4), which led to a top-order collapse that India could not recover from.
India had
won the toss and opted to bowl, limiting England to 151 for seven with
medium-pacer Renuka Singh (5/15) registering her best bowling figures in the
format. Her five-wicket haul gave India hope of defeating the Heather
Knight-led side, but England's Sarah Glenn (2/27 in 4 overs) and Sophie
Ecclestone (1/11 in 3 overs) bowled restrictively, preventing Indian batters
from playing their strokes freely.
